Our goal here at Wild Acorns is to help your child confidently enter Kindergarten, ready for their next adventure. There are many different opinions on what makes a child “Kindergarten ready.” Some focus purely on the academic learning task lists and others on social/emotional or school skills approach.

We believe that academic, social emotional and school skills are important to practice in Preschool with highest emphasis on social emotional skills.

Social/Emotional skills practiced at Wild Acorns:

  • Sharing with a classmate/taking turns

  • Listening skills

  • Labeling emotions

  • Communication skills

  • Teamwork practice

  • Conflict resolution skills with adult guidance if needed

School skills practiced at Wild Acorns:

  • Go to the bathroom and wash hands independently

  • Zip and unzip a jacket

  • Follow simple and multi-step directions

  • Help tidy/put things away

  • Properly hold school tools such as pencils and scissors

  • Focus on an activity for at least 10 minutes

  • Listen to the teacher/classmate without interrupting

  • Ask for help when needed/express a need respectfully

  • Appreciation for music

  • Appreciation for art


Academic skills practiced at Wild Acorns:

  • Shape recognition/tracing

  • Name spelling/recognition

  • Counting /number recognition

  • Rhyming

  • Alphabet letters & sounds: build it/write it/find it

  • Weather Observation

  • Affirmations

  • Calendar: day/month/year/season

  • Addition/Subtraction- basic

Bonus Skills:

  • Flag Songs/Pledge of Allegiance

  • Farming/Gardening skills: seeds, vegetables, berries, flowers, hens
